Wimbledon 2021 Women’s Singles Final, Ashleigh Barty vs Karolina Pliskova Tennis Live Score Updates: Top-seed Ashleigh Barty will take on former world number one Karolina Pliskova in the women’s singles final of this year’s Wimbledon Championships at the Centre Court, London on Saturday.

Barty, who is currently the top-ranked women’s singles player, reached her maiden Wimbledon final by ousting former champion Angelique Kerber in the last four and stands on the cusp of emulating her idol Evonne Goolagong who claimed the second of her titles at the All England Club in 1980. Standing in her way is the formidable presence of big-serving Pliskova whose journey to the Centre Court showpiece has also been a long and winding one. Barty, bidding for a second Grand Slam title having won the French Open in 2019, will start as favourite having won five of the seven matches she has played against the 29-year-old Pliskova.

Wimbledon 2021 Women’s Singles Final Live Score Updates:

Five breaks in the first seven games!

Breaks galore right now at the Centre Court! Barty succumbs to a rare lapse of concentration as her returns turn wayward during her serve. Pliskova stands her ground and keeps it simple as Barty overhits her returns for four consecutive times.

Barty is looking invincible right now as she notches the first point in Pliskova’s serve again. She races to 0-30 with a pinpoint forehand return but she hits the net next and the Czech has her first point of the final. But, Barty dominates and breaks yet again!

12 points in a row for the top seed! Barty relies on her movement and seals the deal with an ace. Pliskova completely frozen.

Barty continues with her momentum and rattles Pliskova with her returns. She breaks early with four straight points. What a start!

Barty wins the toss and chooses to serve first in the 127th women’s singles final. The Australian wins the first point with a delightful backhand and then makes it 30-0 with an ace. Two more points and Barty takes the first game in less than two minutes.

With both women experiencing their maiden Wimbledon finals, nine-time champion Martina Navratilova says the key will be who “handles the occasion the better”. “But you never know until you get there how you will handle it,” she told BBC.

“My advice to both players would be ‘just play the ball’. You’re playing the opponent, you’re not playing the Wimbledon final. Of course, if you get to match point and your heart starts pounding then you feel like you’re going to faint, but you somehow manage to keep it together by playing by memory. Everyone gets nervous, it’s how little you can choke, how well you can handle the nerves.”

Evonne Goolagong’s second Wimbledon title in 1980 was the most recent for an Australian at the AEC. Like Goolagong, Barty has indigenous roots; they’ve known each other for more than a decade and she is wearing a skirt-and-shirt outfit this fortnight inspired by Goolagong’s dress from 41 years ago. “Evonne has guided the way,” Barty said. “She’s created a path for all of us as Australians, but as a family, and for our heritage to know that there is an opportunity to chase after your dreams and to do what you love.”
