The counting of votes for the 243-member Bihar assembly elections began on Tuesday at 55 centres in 38 districts across Bihar. People of Bihar voted to elect their representatives for the six assembly seats of Katihar, Kadwa, Balrampur, Pranpur, Manihari, Barari on November 7. It is currently represented by BJP’s Tarkishore Prasad, who won the seat by defeating JD-U’s Bijay Singh with a margin of 14,894 votes.
This year, the Congress party is looking to make a comeback in Katihar as it has won five times in the past. While BJP candidate has represented the constituency four times, followed by RJD and Janata Dal. Both have won from Katihari three times in the past.

The 243-Bihar assembly went to polls in three phases — October 28, November 3 and November 7 – as the Covid-19 threat loomed. The elections were held in strict guidelines to prevent any spread at the polling booths.
Meanwhile, the exit polls released after polling concluded on November 7, predicted a win for the grand alliance led by the RJD party. Nitish Kumar, fighting elections under the NDA banner, may fall short of a clear majority, according to exit polls.
These surveys are based on responses from people who pollsters speak to after they come out of a polling station. Assuming that the voters have correctly revealed their choice, pollsters predict the results much before the actual counting of votes begins.
