State govt. to acquire 51% Central stakes in BHEL-EML

Stage being set to sign Memorandum of Understanding

The Cabinet has given the go-ahead for acquiring the Central shares in Bharath Heavy Electrical Limited – Electrical Machines Limited (BHEL-EML) at Kasaragod.

Stage has now been set for the State government to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with BHEL. BHEL-EML is a joint venture of the Central and State governments. The company was formed in 2010. The Centre has 51% and the State 49% stake in the company. The State decided to purchase the shares following a Central decision to divest its shares in the company.

Onakodi

The government will distribute Onakodi to the victims of the flood who have been housed in relief camps. Funds for purchasing the Onakodi would be released from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

Free Onakodi will be distributed to tribespeople above 60 years of age. Houses constructed by the government for those who lost their dwellings in the flood would be handed over during the Onam week. Ministers in charge of each district and elected representatives would attend the functions to be held for handing over the keys.

Law officer’s salary

The Cabinet also decided to enhance the consolidated monthly salary of government law officers practising in district and lower courts. The district government pleader and the public prosecutor will get ₹87,500, additional government pleader and additional public prosecutor ₹75,000 and advocate for doing government work ₹20,000.
