Collector asks officials to take measures to protect them
The mega plantation drive with a target of planting 10 lakh saplings on a single day saw overwhelming response in Rajanna-Sircilla district on Wednesday.
The enthusiasm was such that people from all walks of life planted a record number of 12.57 lakh saplings. Of the total saplings, the District Rural Development Agency planted 9.81 lakh by involving the NREGS staff, women SHGs and others.
The Forest Department planted 80,000 saplings, Horticulture Department – 68,000 saplings, Mines and Geology Department – 1,000 plants and Agriculture Department planted 1.27 lakh saplings. Collector D. Krishna Bhaskar participated in the plantation drive at Mandepalli and Sarampalli villages in Thangalapalli mandal and appreciated the officials as well as the people for setting a new record.
ZP Chairperson Aruna and Vemulawada legislator Ch. Ramesh Babu participated in Haritha Haaram in Rudrangi village.
On the occasion, the Collector informed the authorities concerned to take all measures to protect and nurture all the saplings.
