Kelly Clarkson Performs Cover Of Soul Asylum’s ‘Runaway Train’

Kelly Clarkson covered Soul Asylum‘s “Runaway Train” for the “Kellyoke” segment on her talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” on Monday, February 1.

Clarkson and her backup singer sang the song accompanied by her band Y’all.

“Runaway train never going back/ Wrong way on a one-way track/ Seems like I should be getting somewhere/ Somehow I’m neither here nor there,” she sings in the chorus.

“Runaway Train,” released in 1993, was the third single from Soul Asylum’s sixth album, Grave Dancers Union. The song peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song also earned a 1994 Grammy nomination for best rock performance by a duo or group with vocal.

Clarkson has covered several classic songs since “The Kelly Clarkson Show” premiered, including Fleetwood Mac‘s “Dreams,” Toni Braxton‘s “Another Sad Love Song,” Amy Winehouse‘s rendition of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” Tina Turner‘s “A Fool In Love,” and Aerosmith‘s classic “Dream On.”
