Fleur East’s Far East trip could not have been happier because she is going to tie the knot within days.
The X Factor and I’m a Celeb star revealed how she broke down in tears when boyfriend Marcel Badiane-Robin popped the question in a Japan.
There were petals on their hotel bed and when the singer turned around Marcel was holding a ring. He said: “Fleur East, will you be my wife?”
Early next month Fleur, 31, will face her biggest gig so far – when she walks down the aisle to wed fashion designer Robin.
The couple are keeping many of the details of their big day a secret but Fleur can hardly wait.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to it. I’m in the midst of planning it all. I’m not nervous at all. It just feels right.
“We’ve been engaged for three months. It’s been amazing, really, really cool. It hasn’t been stressful at all, we have both been so chilled, it’s been really relaxed.”
The pair, who have been together for nearly ten years, have not employed a wedding planner and have managed the details themselves. Fleur said: “We have quite a few people coming but I’m not going to give too much away about the details of it.
“It’s abroad but I’m not allowed to say where.”
Fleur decided against having bridesmaids and has chosen the entertainment for the night.
She said: “Everything is good to go. We’ve got a special something for the ceremony but it’s not someone famous.”
Fleur and Marcel got engaged in March during a trip to Japan.
At the time she wrote on Instagram : “I’ve literally just landed back in the UK from Japan and I can’t believe I can say that I’m engaged to be a WIFE!!
“My boyfriend Marcel proposed to me while we were in Tokyo. So happy to share this news.” She later told how Marcel proposed in their hotel room explaining: “I said yes immediately.
“How Marcel did everything was just wonderful.
“We’re in a really traditional Japanese hotel and there were petals on the bed and champagne. Then I turned around and he was there, with the ring. He said, ‘Fleur East, will you be my wife?’ I couldn’t believe it. The ring is so beautiful and yellow is my favourite colour.”
Fleur and Marcel, who has dressed the likes of singers Rita Ora and Jason Derulo, met in 2010 while they were working in a nightclub but have mostly kept their relationship out of the spotlight.
It became public when Fleur was taking part in 2014’s X Factor, with reports they were having “secret meetings” during rehearsals. Fleur was mentored by Simon Cowell and she reached the final, losing out to Ben Haenow.
Her sensational cover of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’s Uptown Funk was a highlight of the show and she went on to release her debut album, Love, Sax and Flashbacks, on Cowell’s label.
Cowell, 59, is unlikely to attended the nuptials.
But Fleur said: “Every now and then we check in with each other. He’s cool.”
After their honeymoon, Fleur will work in September alongside X Factor winner Joe McElderry, 27. They are leading a group of celebrities performing across the UK for children fighting cancer.
Bravery To The Bell will also feature performances from Flawless, Marc Spelmann, Matt Croke, Emma King and the Reading Gospel Choir over four dates in Britain.
It will be a two-hour show but ultimately the stars will be local children in remission who will get to ring the bell centre stage in front of the crowds.
The charity single, Tomorrow is a Better Day, in aid of Children with Cancer UK was released last month and performed by talented Emma King.
It is a celebratory nod to the journey children take throughout their fight against cancer to the triumphant ringing of a bell at the end of treatment.
Fleur said: “Cancer hasn’t affected me personally, or anyone close to me, but I remember when I was doing X Factor we went round and visited children hospice’s and did work with the charity Rays of Sunshine and they grant wishes to children with life limiting conditions.
"I’ve spoken to families who have been affected by illnesses with young children so when I heard about the work Children With Cancer are doing I wanted to get involved. It will be really special.”
Last year Fleur once again won the nation’s hearts, as a popular contestant in ITV’s jungle reality show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
But she said the best thing about being successful is getting to travel the world.
She said: “Mexico was incredible, the food was so good. People really loved Sax out there The song was playing in the car, it was surreal.”
Fleur, who is in talks about taking part in X Factor All Stars, said she doesn’t want to “focus” on cracking America.
She said: “I’ve been there a few times but I’m a London girl. If I could get success over there then I’d go over but I’m not putting too much focus on it.”
The Bravery gigs are in Nottingham on September 15, Birmingham September 22, Liverpool September 29 and Croydon October 13. See braverytothebell.com.
