Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, 59, has spoken out after a BBC Breakfast viewer took to Twitter to ask her if “congratulations are in order”. It comes after the eagle-eyed fan spotted the new addition of a ring on her wedding finger while she talked through today’s weather forecast.
The viewer quizzed Carol on whether she had gotten engaged to her “secret boyfriend” after the meteorologist wished her 212,000 followers a “good morning” on the micro-blogging site.
BBC Breakfast fan Mark Gilbertson promptly replied: “Good morning, Carol.
“I notice you’re wearing a ring. Are congratulations in order?”
After spotting Mark’s response, Carol was quick to set the record straight on her jewellery.
She explained that the situation was all down to a simple error, rather than a proposal.
The BBC Weather favourite wrote back: “Oops! No Mark!
“Couldn’t get it on my other finger this morning…back there now!
“That was very observant of you!!x,” she added.
Appreciating Carol’s explanation, Mark replied with three crying with laughter emojis.
It comes after Carol opened up about her “extremely handsome” boyfriend, who she wants to keep hidden from the public eye.
The star got onto the subject of romance while discussing her first novel Under A Greek Moon.
Speaking to Prima magazine, Carol said: “I don’t want to say too much about my boyfriend, but I will say that he is very kind and very funny – he’s always making me laugh. And extremely handsome, as well!

“He always makes me a cup of tea before I go to work in the morning, which is very romantic – it’s 2.45am!
“And he often leaves me a little love note for when I come home from work.
“That, to me, is worth a million red roses.”
However, the former Strictly Come Dancing star also said she is uncertain over whether or not they will get married.
Despite not knowing about if marriage is in their future, she added: “He is the best thing that’s ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt.”
Carol was previously married to property developer Jimmy Kirkwood in 1999, but the couple separated in 2008.
The BBC host addressed her split while talking about her decision to take part in Strictly in 2015.
The star, who was partnered with Pasha Kovalev, told Radio Times: “I found myself when I got divorced.
“I started to do things and to think, ‘I’m not going to say no, I’m going to say yes!’”
